4-Hour Construction Site Storm Water Runoff Sampling and Monitoring Class
This class covers new requirements in the California General Construction Permit for construction site storm water runoff sample collection and sample monitoring
Here’s what you will learn:

- When are you not required to sample runoff?
- When are you always required to sample runoff?
- What runoff sampling changes occur with construction risk levels 1, 2, and 3?
- What reports are required for each risk level?
The Construction Site Storm Water Sampling Class is a 4-hour, hands-on class focusing on runoff sample collection techniques and equipment used, interpreting instrument and laboratory data, and reporting results to regulatory agencies.
The class is being offered to satisfy the California Construction General Permit’s requirement that construction site personnel receive adequate training.
This class is open to anyone that is required to collect or measure storm water runoff, including qualified SWPPP developers (QSDs), qualified SWPPP practitioners (QSPs), site superintendents, sediment and erosion control professionals, or construction workers who are responsible for storm water permit compliance.
Students are encouraged to bring their own runoff sampling equipment (such as pH or Turbidity meters) for additional familiarization and training.

- Grab Sample Collection
- Field Turbidity Meter Calibration and Readings
- Field pH Meter Calibration and Readings
- Data Logging
- Non Visible Pollutant Sample Collection
- When to Sample
- When not to Sample
- Where to Sample on Your Job Site
- Necessary Field Equipment
- Chain of Custody Document Completion
- Outside Laboratory Selection
- Interpreting Laboratory Data
- Data Reporting and Retention
Certificates of Completion will be provided at the conclusion of the course for student use in SWPPPs to demonstrate completion of training requirements.
About the instructor
The class is being taught by Marv Sachse, P.E. Mr. Sachse provides employee BMP/SWPPP certification programs for numerous developers, superintendents and their trade partners, as well as providing on-site storm water sample collection training, storm water permit compliance training and storm water compliance audits for the construction industry. He is an approved Trainer of Record for the State of California QSD and QSP qualification program, and he is a frequent presenter at CICWQ, AGC of California, and Building Industry Association storm water workshops and education classes. He has been trained in the state of California’s SWAMP QAPP protocol and his class offering satisfies the Construction General Permit sampling training requirements.
